I discovered human services in 2001 as a freshman in art school, never imagining where that first step would lead me. Over the years, my work in intensive residential programs, art-based developmental services, homeless shelters, nature-based childcare, mental health crisis services, and camp programs for vulnerable youth has taught me that healing rarely follows a straight line, and that sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer another person is a safe place to be fully human.
As a pre-licensed therapist working under clinical supervision, I bring both professional training and years of life experience to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that our experiences, both the beautiful and the difficult, can become sources of wisdom, compassion, and connection. I am continually learning, and I feel privileged to learn alongside each person I work with. My approach is grounded in Reality Therapy (Choice Theory), with a strong foundation in person-centered therapy. I believe the client is the expert on their own life. My role is not to tell you who you are or what you should do, but to listen deeply, become curious with you, and offer tools, education, guidance, suggestions, mindfulness, and meditation when they may be helpful. Together, we can explore what you want, what is getting in the way, and what choices might move you toward a life that feels more satisfying and authentic. I am particularly drawn to The Fifth Agreement by Don Miguel Ruiz and Don José Ruiz as guiding principles for cultivating healthier relationships with ourselves and with others. These ideas invite us to become more intentional about the stories we tell ourselves, the assumptions we make, the words we use, and the ways we show up in our lives. I also draw from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and the work of Albert Ellis. At times, therapy means offering ourselves compassion; at other times, it means lovingly and perhaps even humorously calling ourselves out on our own unhelpful stories and patterns. I believe accountability and self-compassion can coexist. My hope is to help clients move from feeling stuck in a story of helplessness toward recognizing their own capacity, choices, responsibility, and ability to create change. Connection is at the heart of my work. I value curiosity, honesty, cultural humility, humor, creativity, and the simple practice of being present. Outside of therapy, I find inspiration in art, music, and the natural world. These are all reminders that there is more than one way to experience, understand, and express what it means to be human. Most of all, I believe therapy is a collaborative relationship. You will teach me about you, and I will bring my training, experience, curiosity, and genuine presence to help you discover where you want to go next. Wherever you are beginning, we can start there: without judgment, with honesty, and with room for possibility.
